  EAST vs. west Report Comment
I was reponding to 'Why is is so hard for so many to accept that good hockey can be played on the westside of the state?' The West side of the state doesn't start at Woodward. If you include AA, Ply, USA, Lansing, Flint, Jackson, GR, Kzoo, Saginaw, TC, Muskeegon, Holland, Marquette etc all West of Woodward I am sure you can find great teams at every level.
  Woodward Report Comment
is not the parting point. West side starts on the other side of Ann Arbor. You can't even consider Ann Arbor West side just because they are D6, they have kids that play for or are from east side teams. Holland and GR are split off from all of us because they are far enough away from the main grouping that they can't just play anywhere. At least without driving 2 hours plus to and from practices.
  Directionally Challeged Report Comment
Well, to my (maybe narrow) scope, I agree that Woodward makes a good parting line. So we're talking Plymouth, Livonia, Novi, Suburban, Ann Arbor, Holland, Grand Rapids, and even argualbly USA. (I apologize to those I've missed) So is it irony then that these same teams are typically ranked very high? At least for the past couple of years, these areas have produced some very good teams. Maybe it's not the kids, its the coaching? Just a thought.

CLASS LESS.
  Numbers Report Comment
I would say that the Holland 99 team and the 95 team are not far behding graha's at that age group and the 98 Holland team is currently ranked number one.
  Numbers! Report Comment
Here's the thing... the West teams have far fewer players and teams. The best players make up one really good team, and the rest kind of stink. For example, the 95 and 99 GRAHA teams are really good. They compete at the top of the Yserman division. There isn't a close second around them. These players from those 2 GRAHA teams come from quite a radius, and would be spread to different teams geographically if they lived on the east side. That's why only one or two really good teams come from the West... numbers.
  Westide Story Report Comment
West Side used to be anything west of Woodward if we are talking west side of Metro Detroit.
  EAST vs. west Report Comment
OK I'll agree that the Westside produces one or two really good teams at each level but the rest of the teams at each level are bad. The East produces 7 or 8 really good teams a few bad teams and scores of teams in between. I know it's a numbers thing but don't try to tell me that the West produces the "majority of the better teams" That is just crap! And if you consider Ann Arbor a West team then you are directionally challenged.
  East vs. West? Report Comment
As an Eastside parent, it seems the majority of the better teams are located on the West Side. At least recently in the Y division anyway. They always give our boys the most heartache. The Eastside teams have some serious work to do to get competitive. What do you people feed your kids over there anyway?

Ohhh... the voice of reason. Very well said. Nobody would be shocked if AA, GR or Holland came out of D6. Same can be said for at least 3 teams in D4. GR, PLY, Novi, USA etc have all had their shining moments with big wins, big tourney wins...this season. There are a few more moments to be had, and many of these teams are quite capable! These boys (and girls) keep all of us parents feeling young and chipper.
  Agreed Report Comment
I can tell you as a Plymouth parent that much kudos should be given to GR for an awesome tournament victory. That Valley East team was as tough as any team around. Props to GR and to D6. Maybe we can do an ACC/Big 10 like tourney next year with D6 taking on D4 teams.

Why is is so hard for so many to accept that good hockey can be played on the westside of the state? Why can't people just be proud that 2 LCAHL Teams were in the Intl SS Semi-Finals! (Both from Y-West) D4 is definitely tough - BUT - D6 has 3 Top 10 Teams per this ranking - GR / AA / Holland - So that is no cake walk either. There are alot of great teams at the '99 level - LC Playoffs & Districts will be exciting & very competitve. Best of Luck to All Teams & Congratulations to both Ply & GR for a great showing at SS.
  why defend GR? Report Comment
Those that understand hockey and age relations,etc... understand that they kicked some serious arse this weekend. Great for the team , especially for the kids. My family has been in hockey for some time and it has taught me a greater appreciation for your opponents. Great plays by either team are really fun to watch. Good job for you did what others could not.

If I look at the Silver Stick results correctly, PLY played Valley East twice, losing 6-2 and 4-0. My guess is on this given weekend, GR was going to beat whoever they played, even if the powerhouse PLY, Novi, USA etc. was there. You just never know with 10 year olds what any given game or weekend will bring.
  GR Report Comment
Let's give GR credit for an outstanding accomplishment for winning Int. SS. Way to go!! Why to a55holes on this board have to bash LCAHL because of this and why do people have to bash GR because of this? Grow up folks and be f*cking graceful for once.
  D4 Report Comment
Lets see if they can get through D6 first.
  crossbar Report Comment
put grand rapids in D4 and lets see if they can get past ply, usa , novi, and sub stars ,
  Duh! Report Comment
Of course Silversticks are important as well. I was referring to some scrimmage games that coaches may chage it up a bit.
  Games are important Report Comment
Dear Importance of games.. Do you think Plymouth thought the game wasn't important so they chose to lose to Valley East in the SemI's. Games don't mean much as well?? Districts and playoffs will be more telling.. Does the teams in your district play the #1 team in Canada?

Some games dont really mean much as well. No one knows whether kids were switched during games or not. I would look forward to Districts and Play-Offs. This will be more telling..
